GH2 appoints Joe Williams as its next Chief Executive Officer

The Board of the Green Hydrogen Organisation has appointed Joe Williams as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective 15 October 2025.

Incoming CEO Joe Williams said: “I’m delighted to take on the role of CEO at GH2. The green hydrogen sector has faced headwinds over the last couple of years and there is still work to do to drive down the cost of green hydrogen and its derivatives including green ammonia. Governments need to go further in the shift from fossil fuels to renewables. Smart policies, financial solutions and robust emissions standards are needed for green hydrogen to compete with fossil fuel alternatives.”

“We are making progress, with major projects around the world now operating or close to final investment decision thanks to the unstoppable march of renewables which we are witnessing. GH2 with its strong corporate, government, philanthropic and civil society partners will continue to drive the sector forward to ensure the world can tackle the hard last mile of decarbonization to achieve energy security and prosperity. I look forward to leading GH2 in this next phase.”

Current CEO Jonas Moberg will become Chair of GH2’s board, succeeding Sharan Burrow.

GH2 Chair Sharan Burrow said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Joe Williams as CEO. Joe is well placed to lead GH2 into this new phase. Without green hydrogen we simply won’t achieve deep industrial decarbonization which is so crucial. GH2’s role as the global voice for renewable green hydrogen is more needed than ever. I sincerely thank Jonas for his bold leadership in challenging the status quo.”

Joe Williams is an experienced advocate and coalition builder pushing for better policies and governance in the natural resource sector for over two decades. Prior to joining GH2 in 2021 as strategy director and then deputy CEO, Joe led advocacy at the Natural Resource Governance Institute.

Jonas Moberg said: “The Green Hydrogen Organisation launched exactly four years ago at New York Climate Week. Since then some countries have walked back their climate commitments. GH2 must continue to fight for decarbonisation of the parts of our economy which can’t be fully electrified including chemicals and fertilisers; iron and steel; shipping and aviation.”
