Korea Zinc’s strategy can ensure success as it navigates the clean energy transition

Press Release - 20 January 2025

GENEVA - The Green Hydrogen Organisation (GH2) fully supports Korea Zinc’s commitment to decarbonisation as the company navigates the energy transition.

Korea Zinc’s Troika Drive which includes renewable energy and green hydrogen, secondary battery materials and resource recycling will ensure the business’s long term success together with its traditional smelting activities which also provide the critical materials required for the energy transition.

GH2 has been fortunate enough to work with Chairman Yun B. Choi and Korea Zinc’s management over a number of years and fully support their efforts. Together with other leading international companies, governments and civil society organisations, we have worked to develop and scale the renewable energy and green hydrogen sectors.

Korea Zinc’s assets in Australia through Ark Energy and the related decarbonisation efforts underway at Sun Metals are testament to how investing in renewables can secure the long-term future of the company and its shareholders.

The energy transition is not easy and it requires companies to take a long-term view, closely working together with financial institutions, their suppliers and customers, and with governments, while at the same time maintaining an unwavering focus on the bottom line.

It has been extraordinary to see Korea Zinc’s leadership skilfully navigate the opportunities and challenges the energy transition offers and GH2 looks forward to continued partnership in the future.
