China’s leading role in the era of green hydrogen

The Daxing International Hydrogen Energy Demonstration Zone (“the Daxing Park”) and the Green Hydrogen Organisation (GH2) invite stakeholders to the seminar “China’s leading role in the new era of green hydrogen” taking place on Tuesday 18 January 2022 at 14:00 - 15:30 (Beijing time).

During the seminar, speakers will address and discuss how to accelerate the production and use of green hydrogen. Leading companies will explain what they are doing to rapidly scale up their activities.  

The seminar will conclude with a signing ceremony of the collaboration agreement between the Daxing Park and the Green Hydrogen Organisation.

  • Prof. YU Gan, CEO, Nordic Asia Green Industry Center (NAGIC); Co-Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daxing International Hydrogen Energy Demonstration Zone 

  • Erik Solheim, Chairman of the GH2 Green Hydrogen Development Plan (GHDP) 

  • Jonas Moberg, CEO, GH2.

China is playing is key role in accelerating the production and use of green hydrogen, made from renewable energy and water. The Daxing Park and GH2 have agreed to collaborate to accelerate the green hydrogen revolution, to enable private investments, to raise public awareness, mobilise political commitment, and attract additional technical and financial support to promote emerging best practice internationally. 

For climate change to be averted and the air quality to improve, global economies need to rapidly decarbonize and reduce the use of coal, oil and gas. Green hydrogen – produced using water and renewable energy, has a key role to play in replacing fossil fuels. By 2050, green hydrogen will supply as much as 25 % of the world’s energy, according to the International Energy Agency.

GH2 was launched in September 2021. GH2 is based on the believe that climate disaster will only be prevented if the use of oil, gas and coal stops urgently. To do this, the world needs to accelerate the production and use of green hydrogen, made from renewable energy and water. A founding principle of GH2 is that green hydrogen must be prioritized and differentiated from all forms of fossil fuel and fossil fuel-derived hydrogen, including grey and blue hydrogen. 

The Daxing Park is building a world-leading hydrogen energy demonstration zone. On September 16, 2020, China’s Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the National Energy Administration issued the Notice on the Demonstration Application of Fuel Cell Vehicles. As per the notice, with Beijing taking the leading role, the government of Daxing District will implement the demonstration application in Beijing's Haidian District, Economic and Technological Development Zone, Changping District, Yanqing District, Shunyi District, and Fangshan District, Tianjin's Binhai New Area, Hebei's Tangshan City and Baoding City, and Shandong's Zibo City and Binzhou City, forming a coordinated development model with "one core, two chains and four zones" for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Fuel Battery Vehicle Demonstration Urban Cluster. They will build a complete industry chain including hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and processing, manufacturing of core fuel cell components and whole vehicles, and application in different scenarios, with the aim to develop the hydrogen energy industry into a new major driving force for economic development. Focusing on the functional positioning of "three zones and one portal"—coordinated development demonstration zone for Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, the leading globally influential scientific and technological innovation zone, the new portal of international communication in the capital and the leading urban and rural development deepened reform zone, Daxing District is the demonstration zone in terms of city-industry integration, urban-rural integration, and ecological civilization construction.
