APAC Green Hydrogen Alliance

Catalysing policy leadership and financing for renewable and genuinely low-carbon hydrogen in the Asia-Pacific region

The Asia Pacific region is well placed to produce green hydrogen competitively, to decarbonise industries which are hard to electrify and to ensure energy security and self-sufficiency.

To realise this potential, we need significant political commitment, enabling policies, regional collaboration and rigorous emissions and sustainability standards. Together with leading governments, the Green Hydrogen Organisation (GH2) is initiating an alliance to accelerate renewable energy, green hydrogen and green ammonia use in the Asia and Pacific region.

It will initially focus on countries with advanced green hydrogen strategies: Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore and South Korea

The alliance is bringing together government, industry, finance and civil society to increase regional collaboration to:

  1. Support enabling policy measures and financing incentives
  2. Accelerate sustainable production, use and trade
  3. Catalyse financing for green hydrogen projects

With the aim of creating an enabling policy and capital environment to catalyse large scale projects, it will

  • Convene government, industry, finance and civil society leaders in the region to drive commitments towards accelerated green hydrogen project development.
  • Articulate, communicate and raise awareness of regional green hydrogen potential and market opportunities.
  • Identify financing needs, opportunities and solutions, to be developed and applied at regional and country level.
  • Identify flagship green hydrogen projects to be showcased and presented to investors.
  • Put in place strong regulatory and export frameworks to maximize the benefits of green hydrogen development.
  • Develop guidance and good practices on legislation, regulations and contracting, planning and permitting, fiscal terms and incentives, land use and infrastructure access, community consultation and transparency, socio-economic impact, pricing and offtake agreements, standards and certification.
  • Identify potential trade corridors within the region and to the global market and connect suppliers to offtakers.
  • Identify domestic market opportunities to decarbonise hard-to-abate industries.

GH2 invites government, finance, industry and civil society to join the alliance to contribute to the accelerated use and production of renewable and responsible green hydrogen.

GH2 is a non-profit organisation dedicated to accelerating the production and use of green hydrogen globally.

The alliance has been established in partnership with Breakthrough Energy.
