Green Hydrogen at COP31

COp31

Green Hydrogen Organisation is part of the Global Renewables Hub, a joint pavilion by the Global Renewables Alliance and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

Electrify Now, all the way. Electrification is at the heart of the energy transition, helping to cut emissions, strengthen energy security and build competitive industries. GH2 fully supports the COP31 Presidency's ambition to increase electricity's share of final energy consumption to 35% by 2035. And electrification must go further. Electrofuels, made with green hydrogen and its derivatives, can bring renewable energy into sectors where direct electrification is not feasible: from fertiliser and steel production to shipping and aviation. At COP31, GH2 will call for the 35by35 target to be complemented by specific indicators that measure the uptake of green hydrogen and its derivatives across industry and transport.

With COP31 focused on the implementation of climate commitments, GH2 has contributed to the development of the Plans to Accelerate Solutions (PAS) for hydrogen, maritime transport and fertilisers under the Global Climate Action Agenda.

GH2's COP31 programme will feature high-level discussions with government and industry leaders to build support for the adoption of the IMO Net-Zero Framework; a closed-door roundtable on unlocking investment in green fertilisers; and engagement with the Africa Green Hydrogen Alliance (AGHA) and partners across the Middle East and North Africa to advance green industrialisation and scale up green hydrogen production.
