Invitation to comment on the draft Green Hydrogen Standard
Green hydrogen made from renewable electricity is key to decarbonising the world’s energy system and addressing climate change. With large-scale green hydrogen projects being regularly announced and production set to soar in the coming years, it is essential to facilitate the uptake and trade of green hydrogen through establishing a global green hydrogen standard which is compatible with regulatory advances in the European Union and elsewhere.
The Green Hydrogen Organisation (GH2) invites comments from stakeholders on the draft Green Hydrogen Standard, which is being developed in collaboration with governments, ESG investors, renewable energy and green hydrogen companies and CSO representatives.
The draft is available here.
Issues under active discussion by GH2’s Technical Committee are marked up in red text.
Comments should be submitted to GH2 via Sam Bartlett (Email sam.bartlett@gh2.org; Phone +47 9026 7530) by 1 April 2022.
Background
The Green Hydrogen Standard is a flagship initiative of GH2. The development of the Standard was announced at COP26 in Glasgow and will be launched at the Green Hydrogen Global Assembly and Exhibition 17-18 May 2022 in Barcelona.
In December 2021, GH2 convened an expert roundtable with over 70 representatives from government, industry and civil society. A report from the event is available here. A Technical Committee has been formed to take this work forward. GH2 is now consulting stakeholders on the further elaboration of the Standard. The aim is that the Technical Committee makes a single recommendation to Board on the Green Hydrogen Standard, to be launched at the Green Hydrogen Global Summit and Assembly, 17-18 May 2022.
Additional information of the Standard is available here.
